Plank Tray by Grain Studio
Plank Tray is a simple and sturdy tray beautifully made from sustainably sourced ash. It has a minimal design and clean wood grain created by Grain Studio, a design practice dedicated to social and environmental responsibility. Their work unites current manufacturing technologies and age-old craft techniques.
It uses two planks held together from the base. It could be used to serve food and drinks or as a low pedestal to display objects. The flat surface with any objects on top can bring sculpturally simplistic beauty to the objects and the tray as a whole. It reminds me of Japanese Hinoki home tray which the craftsman will make the two planks slightly tilted and leave a thin gap in between. Thus, it can hold item steady and drain water in some cases when using it in the bathroom.
