Counterpoise Lamp by Saif Faisal
Counterpoise Lamp is table lighting composed of wood and metal. It is minimal and fixable because it only has two parts and can be adjusted by the tilt and height. The table lamp is designed by Saif Faisal, an architect and designer draw heavily from his appreciation of technology and processes.
The aesthetic of the lamp is quite Japanese in its expressions. Inspired by the traditional Japanese bent woodcraft called the Magewappa, found in Odate, Japan around Edo period. The vision was to design a lamp with flexibility, which can be used as a table lamp and task lamp. It can be lowered or raised with just a nimble adjustment with hands to transform its function and expression.
The form of it and the functional attributes make it quite a playful object. It relies on the principles of cantilever locking and weight imbalance for staying on the vertical shaft on any desired position.
