Aizome Cabinet by Zoë Mowat
The Aizome Cabinet is made of Ashwood and has a very interesting ink color contrast. It is functional and perfect for compact space, designed by Zoë Mowat, a Canadian designer focuses on furniture and objects.
The cabinet was designed for the new Japanese brand, Ariake. The overall design has the traditional Japanese woodworking essence and richness in terms of color and finish. Ashwood has a much wider open pore. Thus, the woodgrain has this beautiful color contrast due to the ink coloring. It almost looks like waves and reminds me of the iconic Japanese color woodblock painting, “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”. The bold red color at the handle feels like the stamp of an ink painting, the traditional way of South East Asian artists leave their signatures at the right corner of an artwork.
