Light House by LAYAN
Light House is an alterations and additions project to a detached double fronted single story weatherboard cottage with a beautiful wooden finish designed by LAYAN, a studio embeds ‘the person’ as an intrinsic medium for understanding a project’s spatial experience and its spirit of place. Sympathetic to the human form, scale and proportion, every project is gently crafted with innate tenderness and intimacy.
The existing street façade and front rooms were maintained under a local council heritage overlay, and a modern extension was built to the rear boundary with a first-floor containing the master bedroom and ensuite. The use of American oak throughout brings a strong warm glow to the home. The choice of a thin elegant white glazed brick, laid in traditional stretcher bond draws on the original home’s materiality. The interior is very contemporary and modern featuring a minimal amount of furnishings and accents. The style is unfussy and lean toward clean lines instead of ornamentation.
