Reimagine the Classroom by Lee Sang
Wooden decorations serve many purposes. Aside from enhancing the aesthetics and environment of a room, these decorations can also give people an entirely new outlook on space and a new perspective on sustainable development. Young students, in particular, since they could see, use and play all those wooden structure and furniture in the school at the early age.
Lee Sang, the designer of this project wanted to create a special playroom for younger students which would help them expand their creativity and imagination. The earlier this can be done for a student, the more creative potential they will have in the future. There was one student who imagined using a space tunnel to travel throughout the universe. Another student wanted to use a wooden slope and crosswalk to create a town-like environment.
As for high schools, Lee Sang wanted to add more room and flexibility to the existing spaces which were very narrow and old. In one situation, she modified the lockers to make them movable and then placed one next to the wooden desk of each student. There was also a stage stand installed as well. In another situation, there were wheels installed on the bottoms of all the furniture so that they could be moved around easily. This allows them to use any design layout they want with the space that is available.
This project is of interest to numerous Korean schools and media organizations. So far, over 200 different schools have already sent their applications to be a part of this project. Since August 2017, this project has been carried out successfully and will likely continue to do so into the future.
