Sliabh by John Lee
Sliabh is series of a sculptural chest of drawers and sideboard built in solid Oak. It features hand carved and textured surface created by John Lee, an Irish furniture designer exploring the enhancement of timber’s natural properties whilst experimenting with form, function, and finish.
The curved shape on each drawer requires dedicated and precise woodworking skills. The sideboards have a slightly tilted bottom which makes it visually pleasant and very functional in terms of cleaning. It is easy to find the enhancement of timber’s natural properties. Working on the form, function, and finish to make the furniture more sensually appealing is the challenge. From this series of work, we can clearly tell that the creator the form of the pieces are dynamic. The natural wood grain is well reflected on its finish and shape. It is like artwork in the room.
