St Andrews Beach House by Austin Maynard Architects
St Andrews Beach House is a beach shack with wooden structure, located on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. It is designed by Austin Maynard Architects, an Australia-based architectural firm think the richness of a project come from the collaborative approach that emerged with clients’ open participation.
The beach house is a two-story circular vacation home that takes advantage of the remoteness of the area and expansive views, which extend in all directions because of its circular form. The house stands alone, in amongst wild bush, rugged sand dunes and scrub.
The location is fragile and the house respectfully integrates into the environment with a sustainable design with solar energy. A large cylinder concrete water tank collects rainwater, captured and reused to flush toilets and water the garden. The wooden beams and pillars are jointed with metal brackets.
